Steel City Cleanouts charges a transparent surcharge schedule on top of base load-size pricing in Pittsburgh: stairs over 8 steps $50 to $100, heavy items like pianos and hot tubs $75 to $200, long carry over 50 feet $50, biohazard or Level 3+ hoarding $300+, and after-hours or weekend $100. Every fee is disclosed before the job starts.
Most junk removal companies hide their surcharges until the truck arrives. We publish ours. Here's every surcharge we charge, why we charge it, and the specific situations that trigger it. If a surcharge isn't on this list, we don't charge it.

Notes
- Surcharges are additive. One surcharge never stacks with another on the same item.
- If two or more surcharges apply to the same job (stairs + piano, for example), both apply.
- All surcharges are disclosed on the walk-through quote. No surprises on job day.
Surcharge Schedule FAQs
Are surcharges really all-in like the base prices?
Yes. If you have stairs and a piano, you pay the base price plus $50 to $100 for stairs plus $75 for the piano. That's the total. No fuel surcharge, no disposal fee on top, no environmental tax.
How do you decide what counts as a 'heavy item'?
Anything over 300 pounds that needs special handling or equipment. Pianos, hot tubs, pool tables, safes, gun safes, large appliances. We list the specific items above so there are no surprises.
What if my job has something weird I don't see on this list?
Call us and ask. If it's not on this list, we probably don't charge a surcharge for it. If we do want to add a new fee, we'll tell you on the walk-through before you commit.
